  • Edit the key ForegroundLockTimeout

Windows XP Tip: Restoring Desktop Icon to the Quicklaunch Bar

If you mistakenly deleted the icon for the Desktop from the Quicklaunch toolbar. Follow the steps given below:

  • Go to C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch (where user_name is replaced by your login name)
  • Create a Text file called ShowDesktop.SCF with the following contents:
    • [Shell]
    • Command=2
    • IconFile=explorer.exe,3
    • [Taskbar]
    • Command=ToggleDesktop Go to top

Amazing Yahoo Messenger Trick : Run Multiple Instances, Stay Logged On To Multiple Accounts

Have more than one Yahoo ID? You may want to run multiple instances of Yahoo Messenger and log on to more than one account at once. You can be achieve it with a simple tweak in Yahoo Messenger's registry settings.

  • Open regedit
  • Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\yahoo\pager\Test
  • Create a DWORD Value, name it "Plural" (without quotes) and set its value to 1

Thats it!

Now you can run multiple instances of Yahoo Messenger!

  • Go to Control Panel and open Administrative Tools.
  • Double-click the Local Security Policy.
  • open the Local Policies\Security Options branch and double-click the Accounts: Rename Administrator Account policy.
  • In the Accounts: Rename Administrator Account Properties dialog box, type a new name in the text box, and click OK.

Windows XP Home Edition:

  • Press [Windows]R to access the Run dialog box.
  • In the Open text box, type Control userpasswords2 and click OK to access the User Accounts dialog box.
  • Select the Administrator Account from the list and click the Properties button.
  • In the User Name text box, type a new name, and click OK.

  • Set it a value lower than 2000.

Amazing Google Talk Trick : Run Multiple Instances as Multiple Users

If you have several google talk accounts, you may want to run multiple instances of google talk at once. Here's how to do it. If you installed google talk to the default location, you can easily create a shortcut to this setting.

  • Right-click on the Desktop
  • Select New
  • Select Shortcut
  • Paste this into the text box

"c:\program files\google\google talk\googletalk.exe" /nomutex”

  •  Name it whatever you like:
  • Click Finish

Windows XP Tip: Run slide show of your picture collecton for Screen Saver

To make a personal screen saver in XP, follow these directions:

  • Right-click an empty spot on your Desktop.
  • Choose Properties.
  • On the Display Properties dialog box select the Screen Saver tab.
  • From the Screen Saver pull-down menu, select My Pictures Slideshow.
    • (Optional) Underneath the Screen Saver pull-down menu, adjust the time of inactivity before Windows will initiate your screen saver.
  • Click Settings.
  • On My Picture Screen Saver Options dialog box, click Browse button and select the folder where you have kept the pictures you want to use for screen saver.
    • (Optional) On this dialog you can also adjust transition effects between pictures, how frequently they change, what size the pictures should be etc.
  • Click OK
  • Press the Preview button to see what your screen saver looks like.
  • Click Apply.

  • Open Control Panel
  • Click on Performance and Maintenance.
  • Click on System.
  • Then click on the Advanced tab
  • Click on the error-reporting button on the bottom of the windows.
  • Select Disable error reporting.

  • Click OK

Windows XP Tip: Password Recovery Disk

Password Recovery Floppy disk bails you out of situations where you have forgotten the password to your XP account and cant log in. Here is how you create it.

  • Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click User Accounts.
  • Click your account name.
  • Under Related Tasks, click Prevent a forgotten password.
  • Follow the directions in the Forgotten Password Wizard to create a password reset disk.
Now If you forget your password in future, turn your system on normally. On the login screen, click on the green arrow next to the password box. You will be prompted to insert the password recovery disk you just created with which you can set a new password to override the old password you've forgotten.   • Right click the Desktop
  • In the Desktop Properties dialog box, select the Appearance tab.
  • Click Effects button
  • In the Effects dialog box, uncheck Show shadows under menus option
  • Click Ok
  • Click Apply and Ok
